\u201cTopping out\u201d marks placement of final steel beam for Drillers\u2019 new home<\/em><\/p>\n

TULSA, Okla. \u2013 Manhattan Construction Company put ONEOK Field\u2019s final steel beam into place Thursday during a ceremony co-hosted by Manhattan and the Tulsa Drillers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The ceremony, referred to as a \u201ctopping out,\u201d marked the placement of the final steel beam at the highest point of the stadium\u2019s structure and recognized Manhattan\u2019s employees, iron workers and subcontractors for their contributions to the new downtown ballpark.<\/p>\n

The stadium\u2019s construction has been a significant undertaking, requiring 1,100 tons of steel, 22,000 cubic yards of limestone rock and 10,000 cubic yards of concrete (nearly enough to pave a 40-mile sidewalk).<\/p>\n

During the ceremony, Manhattan Project Manager Bob Jack commended the project team\u2019s safety achievements, which include completing more than 50,000 work hours without experiencing a single lost work day. This has contributed to the company\u2019s nationwide safety record of nearly two million work hours and over one year with no lost-time incidents. Jack said the volume, complexity and fast-tracked nature of the work at the ballpark makes this perfect safety record even more impressive.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of Manhattan, I want to thank our employees and all of our project contractors for their achievements to date,\u201d Jack said. \u201cIt\u2019s your efforts that have allowed us to reach today\u2019s milestone. Thanks to you, ONEOK Field is on time and within budget.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

ONEOK Field is located in the historic Greenwood District in downtown Tulsa. The team will move to its new home from Drillers Stadium, which was built in 1981 at the Tulsa State Fairgrounds.<\/p>\n

The $60 million stadium is being financed through a partnership of public and private investment. Once complete, ONEOK Field will provide Tulsa and the surrounding communities with an urban entertainment option that will spawn additional business and further bolster Tulsa\u2019s economy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Estimates project the new ballpark will generate $13 million in annual sales and $4 million in annual payroll. It is also expected to produce $450,000 in annual sales tax revenue, of which $160,000 will remain in Tulsa.<\/p>\n

The Tulsa Drillers are the Double A affiliate of the National League Champion Colorado Rockies and play in the historic Texas League.<\/p>\n
