WASHINGTON, D.C. –\u00a0 The Georgetown University Dahlgren Chapel of Sacred Heart renovation project, built by Manhattan Construction Co., has won the 2014 Engineering News-Record (ENR) MidAtlantic \u201cBest Project\u201d honor in the renovation\/restoration category. The publication\u2019s 2014 Best Projects competition honors the top projects in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia in 16 categories.<\/p>\n
Manhattan Construction team members performed careful structural restoration work on the 120-year-old, historic chapel building on the campus of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.\u00a0 They also\u00a0restored 16 original, delicate\u00a0stained glass windows, the largest of which is 15 feet by 25 feet. Martin Reddy Architects and Geier Brown Renfrow Architects LLC provided design services for the project.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe renovation of Dahlgren Chapel restored and refreshed the sacred space that is the spiritual heart of our campus, for generations to come,\u201d said Georgetown University Vice President for Mission and Ministry\u00a0 Kevin O\u2019Brien.<\/p>\n
“When you are working with materials from the 1800s it requires flexibility, collaboration and attention to detail,” said Manhattan Construction Vice President Brian Killion. “Our team was honored to collaborate with Georgetown University, Martin Reddy Architects, Geier Brown Renfrow Architects LLC and our subcontractors to enrich and strengthen the building that represents the spiritual center of the nation\u2019s oldest Catholic University.\u201d<\/p>\n
All \u201cBest Project\u201d winners will be featured in the December issue of ENR MidAtlantic and honored during the award event on Dec. 12 in Baltimore, Maryland at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore on the Inner Harbor. The Dahlgren Chapel project, and other top category winning projects, will advance to the national competition to be considered for an ENR \u201cBest of the Best\u201d national award.\u00a0<\/p>\n
