Excitement Builds for UGA’s Track & Field Complex; Manhattan & Perkins+Will Host Beam Signing Ceremony
On July 15, 2025, Manhattan and Perkins+Will, the project’s design-build team, hosted a beam signing ceremony to celebrate the progress made on the construction of the University of Georgia’s new Track & Field Complex. Manhattan and Perkins+Will expressed gratitude to trade partners for their continued progress and commitment to the schedule despite a rainy spring. This marks a significant milestone in a transformative design-build project that is redefining the future of athletics in Athens.
“Everyone has worked hard to make the necessary adjustments to stay on schedule, allowing the track teams to begin enjoying their new home,” said Jason McFadden, Manhattan Construction Company Vice President. “The beam that was part of the event will become part of the grandstand seating structure.”
This ambitious relocation and expansion effort is designed to deliver a state-of-the-art track and field facility capable of hosting Southeastern Conference Championships and elite NCAA competitions.
A New Home for Champions
This event comes at a time of celebration for UGA’s track and field program. The women’s team recently won its first-ever NCAA Outdoor National Championship, a historic achievement that highlights the program’s growing prominence. Head Coach Caryl Smith Gilbert was also named SEC Women’s Coach of the Year, reflecting the team’s excellence and momentum on the national stage.
Soon, these champions will move into a new home worthy of their accomplishments—a facility designed and built for performance, precision, and pride.
Behind the Scenes: Building Big
- 50,000 linear feet of building conduit — nearly 40 laps around a standard track — power every scoreboard, speaker, and light.
- 1,920 bleacher seats — enough to stretch over half a mile end-to-end.
- 165,500 square feet of track surfacing — equivalent to nearly three football fields, with striping that would stretch 124 miles.
- 65,000 linear feet of underground conduit — more than 12 miles of hidden infrastructure.
- 400 light fixtures and 1,200 linear feet of light cove — illuminating the complex with Olympic-level brilliance.
- 196,667 cubic yards of earth moved — enough to fill 59 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
- 6,890 cubic yards of concrete — enough to build a sidewalk from Atlanta to Chattanooga.
- 7,800 square feet of walkway and 3,200 linear feet of handrail — paving the way and ensuring safety.
- 130-foot-tall lighting towers — taller than a 12-story building and visible from over a mile away.
Looking Ahead
As the project enters its final stages, excitement keeps growing. Construction is on track to finish in December. This facility is more than just a venue — it’s a symbol of UGA’s dedication to excellence in athletics, academics, and community.
We’re honored to help bring this vision to life and can’t wait to see the next generation of Bulldog athletes make their mark on this world-class stage.
