First structural steel column installed at Globe Life Field
ARLINGTON, TEXAS – The first structural steel column was installed at the new Globe Life Field project Friday, June 15. The occasion marks the start of vertical construction on the future new home of the Texas Rangers Baseball Club.
Officials from the Texas Rangers and Manhattan Construction Company joined with several Texas Rangers players at the event. In all, approximately 35,000 tons of steel (16,000 in the seating bowl; 19,000 for the roof) will be used in the construction of Globe Life Field.
The official groundbreaking for Globe Life Field took place on September 28, 2017, with construction beginning the following week. The new 1.7 million square foot ballpark, located on 13 acres just south of the current Globe Life Park in Arlington, will include a retractable roof for climate control and shelter for fans during the hot summer months. Seating capacity is approximately 40,000 for Globe Life Field, which will open in March 2020. HKS is the design architect for the project, and Manhattan Construction Company is the Construction Manager.
