Manhattan Construction’s 14th Annual Charity Golf Classic Raises $90,000 for MDA’s ALS Research
HOUSTON – Manhattan Construction Co.’s 14th Annual Charity Golf Classic raised $90,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Houston chapter for ALS research.
“During our 14 years of holding this event, it has raised more than $700,000 for MDA’s ALS research program,” said event organizer and Manhattan Construction Project Manager Keith Knighten. “We are so thankful to Houston’s generous architecture, engineering and construction communities who have made this possible through their support, donations and sponsorship of this tournament throughout the years.”
This year’s event was held Friday, Oct. 10 at Cypresswood Golf Club in Spring, Texas. More than 250 golfers participated.
The tournament was originally conceived by Manhattan team members during the construction of what is now known as NRG Stadium in Houston. A team member of one of the subcontractors on the project was diagnosed with ALS, which ultimately took his life. The Manhattan Construction project team, led by Project Executive Duane Duffy, organized the first golf classic 14 years ago in honor of this industry partner and friend. Today, Manhattan continues to honor his legacy by raising money for ALS research to find a cure for this devastating disease.
