Team member spotlight series: Meet Matt McGahee
With a background in civil engineering and a passion for problem-solving, Matt McGahee has been overcoming challenges in our Atlanta region and helping guide his teammates to success. With a curiosity for how things are built—from the structures he calls home to the bridges we drive over, Matt has sought to understand how the parts and pieces of our world come together.
“About three years into my education, I started to understand what the work life of an engineer really looked like and realized I wanted something more dynamic and hands-on. The choice to move from designing structures to actually building them was an easy one.”
Matt’s Journey
Matt has been involved in more than ten projects in his two-and-a-half years in Manhattan. He started his role as project manager by managing projects under $1 million with only a few trade partners to multi-million-dollar projects with as many as 20 trade partners. Matt is managing $87 million of work across multiple projects, an achievement that has made him very proud. Matt has enjoyed championing continuing education and training among his team within the Atlanta office. He organizes training sessions and roundtable discussions and is part of the company’s education and development focus group.
“Collaboration among team members and departments is a requirement for a project’s success; no one person can do it all. I collaborate with my team members by providing clear delegation and responsibility matrices.”

Beyond the Project Site
Beyond his professional endeavors, Matt is passionate about relationships with friends and family. Matt also focuses on his fitness and health. He enjoys fundraising for organizations like the American Heart Association and Toys for Tots. Matt also volunteers for Best Buddies, an international organization that provides companionship, job opportunities, independent housing, and other services to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities lead independent and full lives.
“Best Buddies is an international organization, but each state operates somewhat independently. It’s a very meaningful and rewarding thing to get involved in.”
Matt’s goal for the future is to perfect his craft as a construction manager. Matt’s journey from engineering to project management exemplifies the spirit of growth and collaboration. Through his leadership, Matt navigates challenges with grace, fosters meaningful connections, and contributes wholeheartedly to his team’s success and the betterment of the communities in which we build.
