The Woody Guthrie Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Held

TULSA, Okla. – The Woody Guthrie Center, home to the Woody Guthrie Archives, opened its doors after a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, April 27th. The Center is located in the former Tulsa Paper Company building in downtown Tulsa’s Brady District. Manhattan Construction Co. renovated the 1922 structure while preserving the historic character of the walls which house treasured American history artifacts.

Woody Guthrie (1912-1967) was one of America’s greatest folksingers and most influential songwriters. Born in Okemah, Oklahoma, Guthrie’s most famous song was, “This Land is Your Land.”

With Manhattan’s deep roots in Oklahoma, it was very special to us to build the place that pays tribute to Guthrie,” said Manhattan Construction Sr. Vice President Bob Jack. “The Center will share his important American story with our children and generations to come.”

Jack said the significance of Guthrie’s work set the stage for an incredibly moving ribbon cutting ceremony. There were so many beautiful community moments including when Guthrie’s daughter, Nora Guthrie led the crowd in singing, ’Oklahoma Hills.’

The project architect was Tulsa-based Kinslow, Keith & Todd, Inc.

Manhattan Construction been involved with constructing several projects related to the development of downtown Tulsa including The Henry Zarrow Center for Art and Education, ONEOK Field, BOK Center, The Guthrie Green, Griffin Communications Center, and GreenArch Apartments.
