The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is a 23,960-square-foot optical facility for the University of Miami. The two-story structure includes exam rooms, a reception area, conference room, and two operating rooms. The exterior envelope consists of a metal panel system and a curtain wall system. The 99-space parking area is constructed of permeable pavers with an underground drainage system that eliminates the need for a retention area and minimizes sheet flow. The building is structural steel framing with concrete foundations and shear walls. The interior contains rated glass partitions, level five drywall finishes and the majority of the flooring is terrazzo. This project is LEED® Gold Certified.
