Marco Island Fire Station 50 is a new 24,000-square-foot, dual-purpose facility that functions as the city’s primary fire-rescue station and as its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for disaster response. The two-story fire station includes a three-story training tower that provides first responders with on-site training capabilities for high-rise firefighting and rescue drills. Designed for continuous operation under extreme conditions, the station is hurricane-hardened – built to withstand Category 5 storms and elevated above the floodplain – so that it can remain fully functional during natural or man-made disasters.
The facility features three large drive-through apparatus bays to accommodate fire trucks and ambulances, enabling rapid deployment of emergency vehicles. Inside, it houses full living quarters for firefighters, including individual bunk rooms for 24-hour shifts, along with a modern kitchen and a dedicated fitness room to support firefighter health and readiness. The station also contains administrative offices and a community training room that doubles as the island’s Emergency Operations Center during crises. This hardened EOC area is equipped with a secure “safe room” and redundant critical systems, including a backup power generator and an independent chiller for cooling, ensuring that vital emergency communications and operations can continue for up to five days if municipal utilities are compromised. An on-site fuel depot further enhances self-sufficiency by providing fuel for emergency apparatus and generators without reliance on external supply. The site design includes ample parking with 208 spaces, supporting fire department staff, emergency personnel surge capacity, and community attendees during events or emergency activations.
Built with a striking modern design, Fire Station 50 features expansive glass window openings on both floors that fill the interior with natural light while presenting a clean, contemporary façade. This not only creates a bright and healthy work environment for first responders but also integrates the facility aesthetically into the community. As the city’s newest fire station and emergency hub, Fire Station 50 significantly enhances Marco Island’s public safety infrastructure. It provides firefighters with a state-of-the-art headquarters for daily operations and training, and it ensures a resilient command center is in place for coordinating emergency response and disaster recovery for the Marco Island community when it matters most. The project was designed by Grace Design Studios.
