Marco Island Veterans’ Community Park

Marco Island, FL

The Veterans’ Community Park project revitalized approximately 10.8 acres of public park space on Marco Island, FL.  It introduces new facilities and amenities that transform it into a year-round community event venue. The project added a 5,769-square-foot outdoor bandshell amphitheater (the Unity Bandshell) with a lawn for audiences, a 1,329-square-foot permanent restroom building to replace temporary facilities, new playground equipment with shade structures, and a dedicated picnic and game area (featuring a life-size chessboard and bocce ball court for visitors). The new bandshell is constructed with structural steel and includes integrated acoustical baffles to reduce sound transmission toward the surrounding neighborhood, ensuring the venue is community-friendly even during lively performances. These improvements build upon Veterans’ Community Park’s long history as a gathering place – it has hosted a popular weekly farmers’ market and a handful of seasonal concerts each year. With the upgraded amenities, the park can now support more frequent concerts and community events throughout the year, enhancing cultural and recreational opportunities for Marco Island’s residents and visitors. The project was designed by Kimley-Horn and MHK Architecture.
