Celebrating the Retirement of Joe Mannon After 50 Years of Dedicated Service

Joe Mannon, Director of Scheduling

Tulsa-based Manhattan Construction Company announces the retirement of Joe Mannon, director of scheduling, after a 50-year career. Throughout his tenure, Mannon scheduled more than $10 billion worth of projects, leaving his mark on every pivotal moment in Manhattan’s history.

“Joe’s impact is not only in the projects he helped support but through the colleagues he mentored and inspired,” said John Reyhan, president of Manhattan Construction Company. “As he embarks on his well-earned retirement, we extend our deepest gratitude for his commitment, leadership, and friendship. His fingerprints are on many of the most important projects in our company’s history, and his focus on detail and production-based scheduling will be felt for generations to come.”

Mannon began his career with Manhattan in November 1975, joining as a Draftsman and Scheduling Engineer after earning his Certificate in Drafting from Indian Capital Area Vocational-Technical School in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Over the decades, Mannon’s expertise and leadership propelled him through the ranks—from Senior Project Scheduler in 1982, to Scheduling Manager in 1990, and ultimately to Scheduling Director in 2007.

Mannon was initially based in the company’s Muskogee office, and in 1980 transitioned to the company’s headquarters in Tulsa and managed project scheduling for all projects in Oklahoma and traveled to support project schedules across the nation. Mannon created and led the company’s scheduling department, enhanced scheduling technology, and improved systems and processes to support the company’s growth.

In addition to projects throughout Oklahoma, his early work included critical projects for the City of Houston, such as the Municipal Courts Offices and Tranquility Park, helping to establish Manhattan’s enduring relationship with the city and fueling a period of remarkable growth for our Houston office.

In the 1980s, Mannon guided the scheduling for the milestone River Center Mall project on San Antonio’s River Walk. Back in Oklahoma, his influence played a key role in major expansions at Ascension St. John and Saint Francis Hospital, and in later years, he supported projects like River Spirit Casino, BOK Center, ONEOK Field in Tulsa, and the Oklahoma State Capitol Dome, and the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City.

Mannon’s support and expertise was integral to success for many Manhattan signature projects, from the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and U.S Capitol Visitor Center projects in Washington, DC, to Florida State University Doak Campbell Stadium Renovations and University of South Florida On-Campus Stadium in Florida, and internationally in Puerto Rico, St. Croix, St. Thomas, Costa Rica, Curacao, and Nicaragua.

“We extend our highest congratulations to Joe on his remarkable career and wish him all the best in his next chapter,” said Larry Rooney, President of Manhattan Construction Group.
